University of Á¢²©¹ÙÍø projects to combat the misuse of pharmaceuticals, classify the risk of prisoners reoffending, investigate violent crimes and assist ex-prisoners with disabilities have received prestigious and lucrative recognition.
The Australian Institute of Criminology has awarded the four projects more than $160,000 in Criminology Research Grants.
UQ School of Social Science Criminology Program Head Dr Adrian Cherney said it was an amazing outcome to secure the four grants.
“As far as I know, never has one university secured four grants in a single round,” he said.
“It speaks to the strength and quality of criminological research at UQ.”
Submissions to the highly competitive scheme are peer-assessed by the Criminology Research Advisory Council, comprising government policy-makers and academic criminologists.
The four projects span UQ’s School of Social Science, the Institute for Social Science Research, and the Á¢²©¹ÙÍø Centre for Intellectual and Developmental Disability.
